Trip.com Airport Transfer in China: Flight Delays, Meet Points & When to Book
Prepaid, fixed-price pickup with flight-number tracking is the main reason foreigners book transfers on arrival—especially after a long-haul delay when DiDi still needs working data and Mandarin pin addresses.

When a prepaid transfer is worth it
Use a transfer when the cost of being stranded—late arrival, heavy bags, kids, no working ride-hail yet—exceeds the prepaid fare. Skip it when you already have DiDi working, light luggage, and a simple metro ride.
How to book (Trip.com’s published flow)
According to Trip.com’s airport-transfer help article, the path is: homepage → Car Services → Airport Transfer → pick-up or drop-off → enter flight details → destination → choose car → pay. Prefer entering the flight number so the supplier can track status.
Trip.com also recommends booking at least 48 hours ahead where possible (per their FAQ on that help page).
Flight delays: what Trip.com says happens

- Delayed flights (eligible bookings) — pickup time adjusts to flight status; check the order details for the updated time. Complimentary waiting is typically described as about 1–2 hours from the (adjusted) pickup time; exact duration is on your booking terms.
- Canceled / diverted flights (eligible) — Trip.com states eligible bookings qualify for a full refund; rebook when plans are firm.
- After free waiting — contact the driver; extended wait may cost extra.
- Late cancel after the free window — Trip.com’s help page states a 100% fee can apply. Always read your voucher.
Terms win over blog summaries
Waiting hours, refund triggers, and meet points are supplier-specific. If the app and this article disagree, follow the order voucher and Trip.com customer service—not a generic “always free wait” claim.
Connectivity before you land
You need data to open the Trip.com app, translate chat, or fall back to DiDi. Set eSIM/VPN before the flight: airport Wi-Fi guide, Digital Survival Kit.
Finding the driver at a China airport

Trip.com’s help text: drivers meet at a designated location; follow pickup guidance in the order and email. If guidance is missing, use in-app messaging (translation where supported) or customer service. Optional meet-and-greet / child-seat add-ons exist on some products—select them at booking if you need a name sign at the exit.
- Screenshot the meet column / gate text while you still have Wi-Fi at home.
- After immigration and baggage, follow Arrival signs out of the sterile area before looking for the driver (see entering China as a foreigner).
- Have the Chinese hotel address ready for the driver even if Trip.com already has it.
Transfer vs DiDi vs self-drive
| Trip.com transfer | DiDi / taxi | Self-drive rental | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price | Upfront prepaid (eligible products) | Meter / surge | Base + deposit + tolls |
| Flight delay | Tracking + complimentary wait (eligible) | You renegotiate / rebook | N/A |
| Language | App + driver contact | Needs working DiDi + pin | Needs Chinese driving permit |
| Best for | First landing, groups, bags | Short hops once apps work | Rare for short tourist stays |

Luggage sizing
Trip.com notes baggage rules vary by supplier; oversized bags may need a larger vehicle. Infants count as passengers for capacity. When unsure, upsize the car on the booking page—do not invent “the trunk always fits four 28-inch cases.”
FAQ
- If my flight is delayed, do I cancel and rebook?
- On eligible bookings with flight-number tracking, Trip.com says the pickup adjusts automatically. Check the order; contact support if the status looks wrong. Do not assume every product behaves identically.
- When do I get the driver’s phone number?
- Trip.com’s China airport-transfer marketing pages and help articles describe email / in-app details before pickup; some supplier pages mention windows such as hours before pickup. If nothing appears close to arrival, use in-app order chat or Trip.com CS—not a random WeChat add from the curb.
- Is Trip.com legit for transfers?
- Trip.com is a real OTA under Trip.com Group. Treat phishing and voucher mismatches as the main risk. Background: Is Trip.com legit?
- Can I add stops?
- Standard products are usually point-to-point. Extra stops may be possible for a fee if the supplier agrees—ask before you leave the curb.
